QUAND LA FRANCE DECOUVRE L’AUDIT

En 1964, Edouard Salustro fonde un cabinet d’expertise-comptable qui deviendra l’un des plus importants cabinets franco-français. Très impliqué dans les institutions de sa profession, il sera, de 1979 à 1982, le président de l’Ordre des experts-comptables. A travers cet entretien, c’est l’histoire récente de la profession comptable française que l’on découvre. A la fin des Trente Glorieuses, dans un contexte juridique et économique nouveau, émerge un nouveau métier, celui d’auditeur. De nouveaux acteurs apparaissent alors : les « big » anglo-saxons, qui dominent aujourd’hui la scène comptable. Seuls quelques cabinets, comme ceux d’Edouard Salustro et de Robert Mazars feront front.

When France discovered auditing

Édouard Salustro interviewed by Bernard Colasse and Francis Pavé

In 1964, Edouard Salustro set up a chartered accountant’s office that would become one of the most important French ones. Deeply involved in the institutions related to his profession, he was president of the Ordre des Experts-Comptables from 1979 to 1982.This interview sheds light on the recent history of the bookkeeping profession in France. Following the post-WW II boom, auditing, a new profession, came into being in a new legal and economic context. New players also arose: the “big Anglo-Saxon” firms that still dominate this field. Only a few offices, such as Édouard Salustro’s and Robert Mazars’, were able to stand up to the competition.
